Anacardium (family Anacardiaceae) A genus of trees that have simple leaves. The fruit is a kidney-shaped nut with a resinous, irritant pericarp surmounting a swollen, fleshy, edible peduncle. A. occidentale (cashew nut) is a bushy tree, extensively cultivated. There are 8 species, of neotropical distribution.
