Samuel ben Azariah
SAMUEL BEN AZARIAH
SAMUEL BEN AZARIAH (13th century), *exilarch in *Baghdad. Samuel b. Azariah was the grandson of *Samuel, the exilarch of Baghdad, and the last exilarch under the *Abbasid dynasty. During the period of his office the *Mongols conquered Baghdad (1258). He retained his position under their rule and was even appointed as adviser to Īl-Khan Hulagu, the Mongolian ruler who conquered Baghdad. It is not known until when Samuel remained in office.
