PICK, JIŘÍ ROBERT
PICK, JIŘÍ ROBERT (1925–1983), Czech author of satirical poetry and prose, publicist, playwright. Born in Prague, Pick spent 1943–1945 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. He contributed to dozens of literary magazines and published many aphorisms, satirical sketches, fables, parodies, and avant-garde poetry for children. Some of his short stories, such as "Association of Animal Protection" (1969), and his plays A Dream of Distant Lakes (1981) and An Unlucky Man in the Yellow Cap (1982) are based on his time in Theresienstadt.
