MĪKHĀʾĪL, MURAD

MĪKHĀʾĪL, MURAD (1906–1986), Iraqi poet and educator. A *Baghdad lawyer, he was headmaster of the Shammāsh Jewish high school in Baghdad (1941–47). Some of his Arabic verse appeared in the Jewish press and a collection of love poems was published in 1931. Mīkhāʾīl also wrote prose works in favor of women's rights and the peasants, and attacking superstition. After immigrating to Israel in 1949, he specialized in Arab education and wrote several textbooks.
