JOSEPH BEN A?MAD IBN ?ASDAI

JOSEPH BEN A?MAD IBN ?ASDAI (also known as Ibn Hasdai ; 12th century), student of medicine, born in Spain of a father who converted to Islam. Joseph emigrated to Egypt, where the vizier Ma?m?n became his patron. Joseph maintained a friendship with Ibn Bajj? (Avempace), the Spanish philosopher, with whom he continued to correspond after his departure from Spain. Among his works are (1) Al-Shar? al-Ma?m?n? (Commentary on the Oath (Kit?b al ?m?n) of Hippocrates). (2) Shar? al-Fu??l (Commentary on the Aphorisms of Hippocrates). (3) F?w???d (useful observations and extracts from the Commentary of Ali Ibn Ri?w?n on the Glaukon of Galen). (4) Al-Qawl ?al? Awwal al-?in???t al-?agh?ra (Study of book one of Mikrotechn? of Galen).
