?ulatah
?ULATAH
?ULATAH (Heb. ????????), kibbutz in the ?uleh Valley, Israel, affiliated with Ha-Kibbutz ha-Me'u?ad, founded in 1936 after the ?uleh Concession (?uleh Valley) was acquired by Jewish bodies. The founders were Israel-born youth of Ha-No'ar ha-Oved movement and *Youth Aliyah graduates from Germany. In the initial years they developed fishing in Lake ?uleh and investigated its fauna and flora. At the time, they suffered from still-rampant malaria and from Arab attacks. After drainage of the lake and the swamps, ?ulatah engaged in farming, but its economic mainstay became a shoe factory and retail outlets. In 2002 its population was 396. The name of the kibbutz derives from the Aramaic name of the Valley.
