EDIGNA, BL.
Virgin; d. Puch, near Fürstenfeldbruck, Bavaria, Feb. 26, 1109. According to legend she was the daughter of a French king and fled to Bavaria rather than abandon her vow of virginity and accept marriage as her father directed. She reputedly lived there in a hollow linden tree from which, after her death, holy oil flowed, but when merchants tried to sell the oil, the flow stopped. She is still honored at Puch, where she is buried, as patroness against theft.
Feast: Feb. 26.
