DROUIN, HYACINTHE RENÉ (DROUVEN)
Dominican theologian; b. Toulon, c. 1680; d. Ivrée, Sept. 30, 1740. He entered the Dominican Order, Jan. 21, 1696, at Toulon, for the priory of Marseilles, and made his novitiate and was professed at Carpentras, Jan. 21, 1697. After completing his preparatory studies, he went to Paris for graduate work; there he taught at Saint-Jacques and was regent at Saint Honoré. In 1713 he received the Dominican degree of master of sacred theology. He entered into conflict with the Jesuits after the king named him professor of theology at the University of Caen in 1719. Later he taught for ten years at Chambéry; from 1730 he was in retirement at Ivrée. His chief work was De re sacramentaria contra perduelles hereticos (2v. 1765).
