DISHYPATOS, DAVID
Fourteenth-century Byzantine Hesychast and theological polemicist. David presumably belonged to the Dishypatoi family of Constantinople. He was a monk and apparently worked in close contact with Gregory pala mas. He wrote (c. 1347) a short but important account of the controversy between Palamas and barlaam of calabria for Empress Anne of Savoy. He is credited with a diatribe (logos) against Barlaam and gregorius akindynos addressed to Nicolas cabasilas; and a polemic poem in 468 verses against Akindynos. These works have remained unedited. To Dishypatos is attributed also a Canon of the Mass dedicated to St. George, the martyr, but he is no longer credited with the section of the patristic florilegium.
