COHEN, JULIUS BEREND

COHEN, JULIUS BEREND (1859–1935), British organic chemist. Born in Manchester. Cohen taught there until 1891, when he joined the Yorkshire College, Leeds, faculty. When this became University of Leeds (1904), he was appointed its first professor of organic chemistry. He is known for three textbooks: Chemistry (1902); Organic Chemistry for Advanced Students (1907); and Class Book of Organic Chemistry (1917). He was a Fellow of the Royal Society.
