Bet Yi??ak
BET YI??AK
BET YI??AK (Heb. ????? ???????), moshav in central Israel, in the ?efer Plain. It was founded in 1940 as an unaffiliated middle-class settlement by immigrants from Germany, many of whom were formerly members of academic professions. Later, Bet Yi??ak merged with the neighboring moshav Nirah, most of whose settlers came from Czechoslovakia and Austria. In 1968 Bet Yi??ak had a population of 825. Its economy was based on citrus orchards, a natural fruit preserve factory, and intensive farming. In the mid-1990s the population was approximately 1,440, increasing to 1,560 in 2002. Its name commemorates the German Zionist Yi?hak Feuerring, whose bequest was instrumental in financing the settlement.
