Avvim
AVVIM
AVVIM (Heb. עַוִּים): (1) a people who dwelt in "villages near Gaza," and were conquered and displaced by the Caphtorim (Philistines; Deut. 2:23). The difficult verse Joshua 13:3 may indicate that they were still living in the Philistine region at the time of the Conquest. (2) The Avvim in ii Kings 17:31 were a group brought by the king of Assyria from their homeland Avva, perhaps the Elamite city Ama, and resettled in Samaria.
