Śmaśāna. Hindu cremation ground. Normally (i.e. according to the norms of dharma) abhorrent and defiling, for Tantric cults of the left hand they are important as the place of testing detachment in the domain of the repellent. Śmaśāna sādhana also includes rituals to control malevolent spirits.
