Shaykh Aḥmad Ibn Zayn al-Dīn al-Aḥsāʾī
Shaykh Aḥmad Ibn Zayn al-Dīn al-Aḥsāʾī (1753–1826). Shīʿa Muslim who founded the Shaykhīs. He was born in Arabia, but moved to Iran, where he became a teacher and prolific writer. His belief that he received, in dreams and visions, direct and infallible communications from the Imāms, combined with suspect teaching on other matters, led to his condemnation in 1822. He died on pilgrimage to Mecca, but his teaching was continued by Sayyid Karīm Rashtī (d. 1843 (AH 1259)) who organized the Shaykhīya/Shaikhīya order more formally. Many Shaykhīs/Shaikhīs became followers of the Bāb (see BĀBĪS).
