Karāmat ʿAlī (d. 1873 (AH 1290)). Indian Muslim reformer, who contested the assimilation into Islam of Hindu customs, regarding them as bidʿa: his book against them is entitled Radd al-Bidʿa. His differs from other conservative reform movements (e.g. Wahhābīya) by accepting the value of spiritual guides (pīr), and he could thus aim to reconcile Sūfī movements with orthodox Islam.
