Ardās
Ardās (Pañjābī, ‘petition’ from Persian ʿarżdāsẖt). The Sikh Prayer. The Ardās marks the conclusion of Sikh congregational worship in the gurdwārā and is to be repeated daily after the Rahirās and Kīrtan Sohilā.
The Ardās is not in the Ādi Granth, and only the opening passage (concluding with veneration of Gurū Tegh Bahādur) is attributable to Gurū Gobind Siṅgh. The prayer evolved in the 18th cent., providing insight into contemporary ideals although lines have been added since. It is printed as part of Nitnem. See NIRAṄKĀRĪ; RAVIDĀSĪ.
