Apratiṣṭhita-nirvāna

Apratiṣṭhita-nirvāna (Skt., ‘not-fixed nirvāna’). The state, in Mahāyāna Buddhism of one who has attained nirvāna, but suspends final attainment in order to help those who are still on the path to liberation—i.e. a bodhisattva.
