Anupassanā

Anupassanā (Pāli), Anupaśyanā (Skt., anupaśyati, ‘look at’). Contemplation, observation; the mode of meditation in Buddhism through which insight (vipassanā) takes place. Anupassanā works on the basis of looking at the object of thought not in terms of the quality or attribute which it seems to the natural, unenlightened mind to possess but in terms of its contrary or opposite, that is, its true characteristic.
