Akāl Takht
Akāl Takht (Pañjābī, ‘immortal throne’). The foremost takht among Sikh shrines, located in Amritsar. The Akāl Takht was founded by Gurū Hargobind for the organization of the panth's secular and military affairs. In June 1984, during fighting between the Indian army and supporters of Jarnail Siñgh Bhindrānwāle, the Akāl Takht was severely damaged, but it has since been rebuilt.
