Abū Ṭālib (d. 619 CE). An uncle of the Prophet Muḥammad. He was the chief of the Hāshim clan of the Quraysh tribe. Though Abū Ṭālib remained loyal and protected his kinsman Muḥammad from his enemies, he never converted to Islam. It was his son ʿAlī, raised by the Prophet, who brought fame to his name.
