Xichang
Xichang (shē´chäng´), city (1994 est. pop. 504,800), SW Sichuan prov., China. A trading and transport center, the city has an economy based on agricultural products and processing; there also is iron and steel manufacturing. The Xichang Satellite Launch Center is located 40 mi (65 km) NW of the city; it began operations in 1984.
