Rodbertus, Karl Johann
Karl Johann Rodbertus (kärl yō´hän rôdbĕr´tŏŏs), 1805–75, German economist and conservative socialist. He held several public offices but after 1849 devoted himself to writing on economics. He believed that society would eventually attain, without violence, the socialist ideal of state-owned property. His books include Overproduction and Crises (1850–51, tr. 1898).
