Delaware River Basin Compact (dĕl´əwâr, –wər), providing for the utilization and development of the water resources of the Delaware River basin. In 1961 the federal government and the states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York agreed to form a partnership in a 100-year building program under the supervision of the Delaware River Basin Commission. Dams and reservoirs furnishing hydroelectricity, flood control, water conservation, recreation, and wildlife refuge are planned.
