Connaught, Arthur William Patrick Albert, duke of
Arthur William Patrick Albert Connaught, duke of (kŏn´ôt), 1850–1942, English prince; son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, brother of Edward VII. Trained for a military career, he served in Egypt (1882) and India (1886–90) and as commander in chief in the Mediterranean (1907–9). He was (1911–16) governor-general of Canada. His son, Prince Arthur of Connaught, 1883–1938, was (1920–23) governor-general of South Africa.
