Chimney Rock National Monument

Chimney Rock National Monument, 4,726 acres (1,913 hectares), SW Colorado; est. 2012. Located in San Juan National Forest, it is bordered by the Southern Ute reservation. Within the monument are the remains of more than 200 dwellings and ceremonial buildings from when the area was inhabited 1,000 years ago by ancestors of the Pueblo Native Americans. Chimney Rock itself, with twin sandstone pillars shaped somewhat like chimneys, is approximately 315 ft (96 m) tall.
