POʿALEI AGUDAT ISRAEL
Ultra-Orthodox Israeli movement, created in Poland in 1922, and representing the workers of Agudat Israel. This group advocated the creation of a state of Israel based on the Torah. It was identified with Agudat Israel regarding religious matters, and in most elections, Poʿalei Agudat Israel (PAI) candidates ran on a joint electoral list with the Agudat. In 1960 PAI joined the coalition government, contrary to the advice of the Agudat Council of Sages.
