Myriapoda(phylum Arthropoda) A subphylum of nearly 13 000 species of arthropods that have a head and an elongated body comprising up to nearly 100 segments, each bearing a pair of uniramous appendages (‘myriapod’ means ‘many-legged’). There are four classes: Chilopoda (centipedes), Diplopoda (millipedes), Pauropoda, and Symphyla (the last two have no common name).

Myriapoda In some classifications, a subphylum of arthropods of the phylum Uniramia that comprises the classes Chilopoda (centipedes), Diplopoda (millipedes), Pauropoda (pauropods), and Symphyla (symphilids). In other classifications the Myriapoda is a class containing only the centipedes and millipedes.
