Albright Knot

Excellent knot for connecting lines of unequal diameters.

Commonly used to join the fly line to the backing. It is useful to connect the leader to the fly line (it makes a stronger connection than the nail knot).

  1. Make a loop in the end of the fly line. Pass the backing or the leader through this loop.
  2. Make at least 5 twists. You can make up to 10 twists if you want a longer knot that will slide through the rods line guides more easily. Pass the tag end through the fly line loop in the opposite direction.
  3. Lubricate, draw tightly, avoid any overlapping loops, and trim the tag end.
