Rosenblueth, Arturo Stearns (1900–1970)
Arturo Stearns Rosenblueth (b. 2 October 1900; d. 19 September 1970), Mexican educator and physiologist. Born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Rosenblueth studied in Monterrey and Mexico City, where he graduated from the National School of Medicine in 1921. He did advanced work in Berlin and at the University of Paris before returning to the National University to teach in 1927. He obtained a Guggenheim fellowship to study under Walter Cannon at Harvard (1930–1932) and stayed to teach physiology until 1944, earning in the process an international reputation in neurophysiology. His work was published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and on his return to Mexico, he mentored a select group of prominent future scientists. He was chief of the department of physiology at the National Polytechnic Institute and directed the physiology laboratory under Ignacio Chávez at the National Institute of Cardiology (1944–1960). He became a member of the National College in 1947, and received Mexico's National Prize in Sciences in 1966.
