Plan of Tuxtepec
Plan of Tuxtepec, Mexican revolutionary pronouncement of 1 January 1876. The followers of General Porfirio Díaz protested the effort by incumbent president Sebastián Lerdo De Tejada to seek reelection. Díaz had earlier revolted against the practice of reelection in the unsuccessful Plan of La Noria (8 November 1871). The key provisions of the Plan of Tuxtepec were the prohibition of reelection of the president and state governors and the appointment of Díaz as commander of revolutionary forces. Later reformed by the Plan of Palo Blanco (21 March 1876), the revolutionary movement triumphed at the battle of Tecoac (16 November 1876), ultimately winning Díaz the presidency (1876–1880, 1884–1911).
