Jiménez de Palacios, Aurora (1922–1958)
The Mexican politician Aurora Jiménez de Palacios was born on December 9, 1922, in Tecuala, Nayarit, to a family of modest means. She received several government scholarships for the children of workers in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and Mexico City to attend public schools. Jiménez de Palacios graduated in economics from the University of Guadalajara in 1947. She held a number of administrative posts at her alma mater and then moved to Baja California del Norte. In 1954 her state changed its status from a federal territory, and special congressional elections were held. She was elected the first female member of the Mexican congress.
