Carrillo Flores, Nabor (1911–1967)
Nabor Carrillo Flores (b. 23 February 1911; d. 19 February 1967), educator, scientist, and intellectual. Born in Mexico City, he was the younger brother of Antonio Carrillo Flores, and the son of the musician Julián Carrillo. He received a civil engineering degree from the National University in 1938 and a doctorate from Harvard in 1942. Internationally renowned for his work in subsoil mechanics, Carrillo Flores studied with Sotero Prieto before receiving a Guggenheim fellowship (1940). He directed various scientific research projects at the National University, and served as its rector from 1952 to 1961. He received the National Prize in Sciences in 1957 and pioneered the use of atomic energy in Mexico. He died in Mexico City.
