may·ap·ple / ˈmāˌapəl/ (also May apple) • n. an American herbaceous plant (Podophyllum peltatum) of the barberry family with large, deeply divided leaves. It bears a yellow, egg-shaped edible fruit in May and is used medicinally. Also called mandrake.
