Foxe's Martyrs informal name for Actes and Monuments, the martyrology by the Protestant divine John Foxe (1516–87). This passionate account of the persecution of English Protestants, popularly known as The Book of Martyrs, which appeared in England in 1563, fuelled hostility to Catholicism for generations.
