Evening ★½ 2007 (PG-13)

Ann (Red-grave, chewing scenery) is on her deathbed, and she flashes back to a time when her younger self (Danes) experienced love and loss and possibly caused the death of a friend's brother. Meanwhile, her grown daughters (Collette and Richardson) struggle with their own issues while tending to their dying mother. Adapted by Minot from her novel, the film fails to escape its leaden dialogue, miscast actors, and unlikable, stereotypical characters. 117m/C DVD, Blu-ray Disc . US Vanessa Redgrave, Natasha Richardson, Toni Collette, Meryl Streep, Claire Danes, Patrick Wilson, Hugh Dancy, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Mamie Gummer, Eileen Atkins, Glenn Close, Barry Bostwick; D: Lajos Koltai; W: Susan Minot, Michael Cunningham; C: Gyula Pados; M: Jan A.P.
