ETH, also edh. In OLD ENGLISH, the LETTER  or ð, used to represent both a voiced and an unvoiced apico-dental fricative (the th in both these and three in Modern English); in Modern Icelandic and IPA, the letter ð, used to represent a voiced apico-dental fricative (as in these). It originated in Old English as a crossed d. Its upper-case form is ð. See SPEECH, THORN.
