bull terrier Strongly built sporting dog, originating from England and once used for bear-baiting; it has a large oval head with small, erect ears. The broad-chested body is set on strong legs and the tail is short. The “coloured” variety can be any colour, but the “white” is pure white, often with darker head markings. Height (at shoulder): up to 56cm (22in).
