squarson former term for an Anglican clergyman who also held the position of squire in his parish. The word, coinage of which has been attributed to Bishop Samuel Wilberforce (1805–73), Sydney Smith, and others, is formed from a blend of squire and parson, and is recorded from the late 19th century.
