Irvine agreement

Irvine agreement, 1297. In 1296 Edward I led a large army into Scotland, deposed John Balliol, and removed the stone of Scone. At Irvine in July 1297 a number of Scottish barons, including possibly Robert Bruce (later Robert I), submitted. But Scottish resistance flared and in September Wallace's great victory at Stirling put English supremacy in doubt once more.
