Venables, Terry ( Terence Frederick) (1943– ) English football player and manager, born in Dagenham, e London. He began his career playing for Chelsea in 1960, winning his two full England caps before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 1966. In 1969 he transferred to Queen's Park Rangers and in 1974 was briefly with of Crystal Palace. He was manager of Crystal Palace (1976–80), Queen's Park Rangers (1980–84) and, most successfully, Barcelona (1984–87). As manager of Tottenham from 1987 he guided his team to victory in the 1991 FA Cup. A colourful if sometimes controversial character, he was England coach from 1994–96.
