Finno-Ugric
Finno-Ugric Group of related languages spoken by more than 22 million people in Finland and n Norway, in Estonia and Karelia, in various areas at the n end of the River Volga and each side of the Ural Mountains, and in Hungary. The languages are totally unrelated to the Indo-European family. The Finnic branch includes Finnish, Estonian, Lappish, Mordvinian, Mari, Komi, Votyak, Cheremiss and Zyrian; the Ugric branch comprises Hungarian, Ostyak and Mansi (Vogul). Together with the Samoyed languages, Finno-Ugric makes up the Uralic family.
