electricity sources
electricity sources Devices that convert other forms of energy into electricity. Most of the world's electricity is produced in power stations from the chemical energy of fossil fuels. The heat from burning coal, oil, or natural gas turns water into steam. The steam drives a turbine, linked to an electricity generator. In a nuclear power station, heat comes from the fission of nuclei in a nuclear reactor. A battery and fuel cell converts chemical energy directly into electricity. Solar cells convert solar energy into electricity. Wind generators and water turbines produce electricity from the energy of movement in wind and water.
