Full name, David Thomas Thacker; born December 21, 1950, in Northampton shire, England; son of Thomas Richard and Alice May (maiden name, Beaumont) Thacker; married Margot Elizabeth Leicester (an actress); children: Thomas David, William Charles, Edward Arthur, Elizabeth Grace. Career: Director and writer. York Theatre Royal, began as assistant stage manager, became deputy stage manager and stage manager, between 1974 and 1975, then assistant director, 1975–76; Chester Gateway Theatre, Chester, England, Arts Council assistant director, 1976–77, associate director, 1977–78; Duke's Playhouse, Lancaster, England, Arts Council associate director, 1978–79, then director, 1980–84; Young Vic Theatre, London, director, 1984–93; Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford–upon–Avon, England, director in residence, 1993–95; Rolling Stock Theatre Company, founder.
