Description:

State-supported, comprehensive, coed. Part of University of Alaska System. Awards associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. Founded 1972. Setting: 198-acre small town campus. Endowment: $3.1 million. Research spending 2003-04: $892,900. Educational spending 2003-04: $9339 per student. Total enrollment: 3,379. Faculty: 228 (96 full-time, 132 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 12:1. 396 applied, 63% were admitted. 8% from top 10% of their high school class, 25% from top quarter, 54% from top half. Full-time: 894 students, 57% women, 43% men. Part-time: 2,259 students, 67% women, 33% men. Community Environment:

Situated on the shores of scenic Auke Lake, with the famous Mendenhall Glacier in clear sight, the main campus is only a few miles from the heart of downtown Juneau, the capital of Alaska. Nestled between 4,000-foot snow-capped peaks on one side and the sparkling water of Gastineau Channel on the other, Juneau was the first Alaskan city founded after the American purchase of Alaska in 1867. The city is centrally located in the Tongass National Forest, the nation's largest. The combined city and borough encompass 3,108 square miles of land, ranging from tundra, to moss-draped forests, to wind-blown mountain peaks. Juneau's population is approximately 30,000 and provides numerous cultural, academic, and professional opportunities.
