Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowships (Doctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To supports early-stage graduate students in formulating successful doctoral dissertation proposals. Focus: Social sciences, Humanities. Qualif.: Applicant must be a student in the humanities and social sciences undertaking doctoral dissertation research; must be a second or third year PhD student enrolled in U.S institutions, who have not yet submitted and will not submit their dissertation proposal until after the fall workshop; must be a student who have completed their comprehensive, general, and qualifying exams. Faculty must apply as teams; must be tenured at the time of application; must be trained in different disciplines; must experiences supervisors of dissertation research. Criteria: Student applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: (1) Originality and appropriateness of the topic; (2) Preparation of the student; (3) Summer Predissertation Research Plan; (4) Summer Funding. Research directors and their proposed research fields are evaluated based on the following criteria: (1) Originality; (2) Appropriateness; (3) Research Directors; (4) Impact.
Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicant must submit a proposed research about the dissertation topic. Applications have to be submitted by two tenured faculty from different US universities and, as relevant, different disciplines. Deadline: October 3.
Korean Studies Dissertation Workshop Funds (Graduate/Grant)
Purpose: To foster a sustained network of advanced graduate students and faculty engaged in research on Korea. Focus: Social sciences, Humanities. Qualif.: Applicant must be a full-time advanced graduate student enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian institution; must have an approved dissertation prospectus at the time of application, but cannot have completed writing for final submission. Criteria: Special consideration will be given to students from universities that are not major Korea Studies institutions. Selection of applicant will be based on the narrative project descriptions as part of the application.
Funds Avail.: Funds for the program are provided by the Korea Foundation. To Apply: Applicant must complete and sign two-page application form; must have a summary of the dissertation proposal; must submit a curriculum vitae.
