Description:
Independent, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1867. Setting: 160-acre suburban campus with easy access to Baltimore and Washington, DC. Endowment: $65.4 million. Research spending 2003-04: $140,829. Educational spending 2003-04: $8892 per student. Total enrollment: 3,304. Faculty: 190 (129 full-time, 61 part-time). Required: essay, high school transcript, minimum 2.5 high school GPA, SAT or ACT. Recommended: recommendations, interview, SAT Subject Tests. Required for some: interview. Entrance: moderately difficult. Application deadlines: 2/1, 12/1 for early action. Notification: 4/1, 1/15 for early action.
Costs Per Year:
Application fee: $50. Comprehensive fee: $30,400 includes full-time tuition ($24,500), mandatory fees ($300), and college room and board ($5600). College room only: $3000. Room and board charges vary according to board plan and housing facility. Part-time tuition: $766 per credit. Part-time mandatory fees: $150 per term.
Collegiate Environment:
Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 128 open to all; national fraternities, national sororities, local fraternities, local sororities; 16% of eligible men and 12% of eligible women are members. Major annual events: homecoming, Jazz Nights, Spring Fling. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling. Freshmen guaranteed college housing. On-campus residence required through junior year. Options: coed, men-only, women-only housing available. Hoover Library with 629,965 books, 1.4 million microform titles, 3,500 serials, 11,125 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $1.2 million. 171 computers available on campus for general student use. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms and from off campus.
