Ernest Hemingway Research Grants (Professional Development/Grant)

Purpose: To provide funds for scholars and students who are doing research in the Ernest Hemingway Collection. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a scholar and student interested or doing research in Ernest Hemingway Collection. Criteria: Grant applications are evaluated on the basis of expected utilization of the Hemingway

Collection. Preference is given to dissertation research by Ph.D candidates working in newly opened or relatively unused portions of the collection, but all proposals are welcome and will receive careful consideration.

Funds Avail.: $200-1,000. To Apply: Application forms are available at the website; must be accompanied by a brief proposal (three to four pages) in the form of a letter or more describing the planned research, its significance; must submit two letters of recommendation from academic or other appropriate references; must have a sample of your writing, a project budget, and a vitae. Application forms and other supporting materials must be send to: Grant and Fellowship Coordinator, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Columbia Point, Boston, MA 02125. Deadline: November 1.

Jim & Nancy Hinkle Travel Grants (Postdoctorate/Grant)

Purpose: To defray travel expenses for graduate students who wants to attend the biennial international conferences. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Recipients must be members in good standing of the Hemingway Society; must currently be enrolled in a graduate degree program, and must be planning to present a paper at the conference. Criteria: Applications are selected by the Hickle Travel Grant Committee and evaluated by the following criteria: clarity, originality, and value in furthering Hemingway scholarship, criticism, or instruction. Application from previous Hinkle winners are welcome, applications from students who have not won before will be given priority.

Funds Avail.: Travel expenses for the biennial international conference. To Apply: Application must include the following information: (1) Full name of applicant, (2) address, phone, email, (3) Social Security Number, (4) Paper title & abstract, (5) Degree program and school, (6) Letter of recommendation. Applications should be sent to Hinkle Selection Committee Chair: Gail Sinclair, Rollins College, Box 2752, 1000 Holt Ave., Winter Park, FL. 32789. Deadline: March 1.

Smith-Reynolds Founder Fellowships (Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To support the students in their research on Ernest Hemingway. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a graduate student, independent scholar, or post-doctoral up through the rank of assistant professor. Criteria: Applications are ranked by the committee based on the following criteria: clarity, originality, and feasibility, criticism, or instruction; and the likelihood of its publication.

Funds Avail.: $2,000. To Apply: Applicant must submit as a Microsoft word attachment or send by mail the following information and agreements: (1) Full name and Social Security Number, (2) Addresses, phone numbers and email address (including summer and between session), (3) Degree program and school, (4) Verification of graduate enrollment status or awarded degree (if appropriate); must have the description of Hemingway Project (200-word limit). Must be sent to: Prof. Carl P. Eby, Chair, Smith-Reynolds Founders Fellowship Committee, at carlpeby@gwm.sc.edu. Deadline: April 1.
