The Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To help defer college expenses at a four-year accredited institution. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating from a public senior high school located in the District of Columbia; applicants must have demonstrated commitment to community service and social change; applicants must have demonstrated financial need; applicants must have at least 2.75 GPA or better; at least 1000 between math and verbal SATs and at least a score of 3 and above in the essay section; must have a family income of less than $70,000. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need, academic standing, and upon the decision of the Foundation Board of Directors.
Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit an application form; essay; two letters of recommendation in which one is from the councilor and one is from the teacher; a copy of College Financial Aid Application or Student Aid Report; official transcript through midterm period of second semester of senior year including the SAT scores; budget for preferred college; letter of acceptance from college of choice; and a financial aid award letter from college of choice. Deadline: April 14.
The Frederick B. Abramson Public Interest Fellowships Award (All/Fellowship)
Purpose: To honor and further the ongoing value of educational attainment; to further the importance of community service and mentoring, especially for minorities and
women; to further the legal representation for disadvantaged individuals and the public interest. Focus: Law. Qua-lif.: Applicants must be graduating law students, judicial law clerks, or practicing attorneys wishing to work in public interest law. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the determination of the Foundation Board of Directors.
Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete the application form; applicants must submit a resume; two letters of recommendation; confirmation of public interest job; statement of financial responsibilities; statement of interest and career plans. Deadline: August 18.
