Mellon Fellowships (Doctorate, Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To help junior scholars in the humanities and related social-science fields gain skill and creativity in developing knowledge from original sources. Focus: Humanities; Social sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be enrolled in a doctoral program in a graduate school in the United States; have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation; planning to do dissertation research primarily in original source material in the holdings of archives, libraries, historical societies, museums, related repositories, or a combination. Candidates for the Ed.D, J.D., or D.D. degrees are not eligible. Criteria: A special committee of senior scholars in the humanities, archivists, and special-collections librarians will select recipients.

Funds Avail.: $1600 per month. Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must complete and submit the online application form; official transcripts; a letter from the appropriate dean, department head, or dissertation advisor certifying that the candidate has completed or will complete all doctoral work except the dissertation; and three letters of reference. All documents must be submitted in triplicate by mail. Deadline: November.

A.R. Zipf Fellowships (Graduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To support students in graduate school in early stages of study. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Criteria: Selection is based on the application.

Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must complete and submit the online application form; four letters of reference; undergraduate and graduate school transcripts; and scores of Graduate Record Examinations (if taken).
