Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships (Doctorate, Graduate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To support library and information science doctoral students working with their dissertation. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be a doctoral student in library and information science; has advanced candidacy with all requirements for degree completed except writing and defense of dissertation. Criteria: The Scholarship Committee meets during May, and the recipients are announced at the annual meeting in June.
Funds Avail.: $3000. Number Awarded: 6. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form together with the abstract of the dissertation (maximum of 300 words); Letter of approval from the Dean or Director; personal statement (maximum of 500 words) on post-dissertation plans; and three letters of reference sent to the address on the application. Mail application to Beta Phi Mu, School of Information Studies, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306-2100. Deadline: March 15.
Sarah Rebecca Reed Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To support students with their educational pursuits. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be admitted to a graduate program in library and information studies accredited by the American Library Association and have not completed more than 12 hours by the Fall semester following to the application deadline. Criteria: The Scholarship Committee meets during May, and the recipients are announced at the annual meeting in June. Applicants are judged on several factors but the autobiographical note is the prime importance.
Funds Avail.: $2000. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form together with a one-page typed autobiography; current transcripts from all institutions of higher learning; and five letters of recommendation. Mail application to Beta Phi Mu, College of Information Studies, Florida State University, 101 Louis Shores Building, Tallahassee, FL 32306-2100. Deadline: March 15.
Frank B. Sessa Scholarships for Continuing Professional Education (Professional Development/Scholarship)
Purpose: To support librarians in increasing their professional skills through additional study or attendance at a formal program or workshop. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicant must be librarian pursuing to attend a formal program or workshop, or activities that will increase their professional skills. Criteria: Scholarship will be awarded based on the plan of study; usefulness of the planned study to the applicants present job; or usefulness of the planned study to the applicants future professional endeavors. The Scholarship gives low priority to applicants pursuing a formal degree program.
Funds Avail.: $1250. To Apply: Applicants must submit a current vita and a 1-2 page typed description of plans for study and their relevance to the present job and plans for the future.
